Knife Crime Initiative
Back
Since the start of the term, year 7 pupils have been working with external guests on a new Knife Crime Initiative - which utilises Virtual Reality Headsets.
'Virtual Decisions Knives' was commissioned by West Midlands Police and investigates why so many young people choose to carry knives. The session includes presentations and group discussions but the most powerful part is when pupils put on the VR headsets.
They play out a scenario which is acted out by young people where they are offered the chance to carry a knife.
There are many different ways that the pupil can take the story as they are asked to make a number of key decisions. Each scenario involves the legal impact of the decisions and the police then arrest anyone who has broken the law.
Our pupils have been fantastic in every workshop and involved themselves in some very interesting discussions.
We'd like to say a big thank you to Jacqui and Mike for bringing this initiative into school and delivering such important sessions.
