This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to students and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education should pupils be asked to self-isolate.
We also ask that parents complete a Home School Agreement and parental Agreement which can be found under our Home Learning section here.
What is taught to students at home?
- When a pupil is required to self-isolate they can access their lessons through Microsoft Teams.
- Pupils are part of a ‘class team’ for each of their subjects. During a period of self-isolation, pupils will be invited into their lesson as per the timetable they would be following in school.
- This approach ensures that pupils can access the same curriculum as they would in school.
- The exceptions to this include subjects such as P.E., Music and Drama. In these subjects, alternative work is available to access via the students Teams channel.
Remote teaching and study time each day
- When studying remotely, pupils will have access to 4-5 hours of learning per day in line with their usual timetable at school.
How will my child be taught remotely?
We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:
- Live lessons – this is our most common approach
- Recorded lessons
- Providing access to online learning platforms such as Seneca and Mathswatch

Additional Support for Students with Particular Needs
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
We recognise that some students, for example some students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those students in the following ways:
- SEND students identified as requiring bespoke teaching of how to use Microsoft Teams are given tutorial sessions. This is also provided to parents with specific support from our IT department when needed.
- SEND students who self-isolating are contacted by a member of the SEND Team to check in and help support with any problems.
- Teaching Assistants who would routinely support in lessons join Teams classes to offer additional support either in the session remotely, following the session or once back in school
- Remote contact with key staff via Teams is becoming a normal way of communicating for many SEND students.
Engagement & Feedback
How can parents and carers provide support at home?
Parents and carers have a big role to play to ensure that students engage with remote learning. This can include:
- Ensuring that your child is organised for the day and has all of the materials that they need to work effectively.
- Providing your child with a quiet space free of distractions.
- Providing regular encouragement and praise.
- Contacting the school at the earliest opportunity if your child is having difficulties.
How will the school check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
Because all students are part of a ‘class team’ for each of their subjects, the teacher will be aware of which students are engaging with their learning. This will be initially addressed with the student via Teams, however, if problems persist, the class teacher and/or a colleague from your child’s Guidance Team may get in touch to provide support if required.
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments. For example, verbal feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:
- Verbal feedback
- Written feedback when books are returned
- Low stakes testing
We recognise that some students may not have suitable online access at home. We have taken the following approaches to support those students to access remote education:
- Issued devices to students who have indicated digital access is an issue. This has included 4G devices where broadband has been identified as a barrier to accessing remote learning.
- Loaned out laptops to students who are self-isolating.
