Key Stage

Years

7, 8, 9, 10, 11

PE at Northfield adheres to the National Curriculum framework and aims to provide continuity of learning experience by building on and embedding the physical development and skills learned in key stages 1 and 2. With pupils becoming more competent, confident and expert in their techniques, and applying them across different sports and physical activities, in order to excel. As a result, pupils look forward with eagerness and anticipation to PE lessons at Northfield.

We offer a broad and varied curriculum that will encourage participation and inspire our pupils to lead healthy active lifestyles and support our academic courses in KS4. Pupils are motivated to be physically active for sustained periods of time and develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise, sports and activities out of school and in later life. Further to this, pupils are given a plethora of opportunities to participate in competitive sport and other activities beyond the curriculum to build character, cooperation and help to embed disciplinary skills such as tolerance, fairness, teamwork, resilience, honesty and respect. In KS3 PE we have coaches from Billingham rugby club and a local dance teacher come in to provide expertise coaching to give our pupils the best experience possible in the respective activity. At KS4 we have developed links with the Bede college, the local sixth form, we attend their competitions in various sports and work closely with them to provide a pathway to KS5 for those pupils wanting to continue with sport.
