National Tutoring Programme

As you know, the COVID 19 pandemic has been hugely disruptive to the education of your child over the last 18 months. Thankfully, with the easing of restrictions, we will hopefully return to some form of normality and start to maximise the benefits that this will bring.

We are conscious that many pupils are feeling anxious about the amount of time that they have spent out of school and the impact that this has had on their progress. In order to support our pupils this year, we are working closely with the National Tutoring Programme (https://nationaltutoring.org.uk/) to offer the opportunity for pupils to work with specialist tutors in either English, maths or science to help address any gaps in learning during this academic year. It is important to note that the subject will be decided by the school based on the needs identified from our assessment cycle.

Whilst there are a few yet unanswered questions regarding how this programme will operate, we are looking to be ambitious and to offer this opportunity to as many pupils as possible at no cost to our parents.

What we do know is that the features of the tuition programme are as follows:

• Tuition will involve 15 hours of delivery

• Tuition will be delivered remotely

• Tuition will be delivered in a pupil’s own time outside of school hours

• Tuition will be on a maximum ratio of 1 tutor to 3 pupils

• The content of the tuition will be tailored to needs of the pupils

For us to start coordinating this, we are initially seeking expressions of interest by September 28th 2021 using the link below:

National Tutoring Programme - Expression of Interest

Once expressions of interest are collated, we will provide further information after we have liaised with our tuition partners on the delivery schedule. If you have any further questions on this please feel free to contact Dr G Ankers, Deputy Headteacher on northfield.school@northfieldssc.org.
